Dominos pizza delivered

Pizza for dinner last night It was delivered to the door and delicious!  Who would have thought that you could get Dominos pizza delivered in Delhi. I have a washing machine on the roof top.  No dryer but you don't need one as the clothes are dry in about one hour on the line.   There is a simple pleasure on doing domestic chores. It is mango season here and I just bought two different ones to do a side by side tasting.  One was delicious, maybe the best I have ever had, the other had a different taste.  What fun!  Things are pretty inexpensive.  I bought vegetables for a meal and they all cost about two dollars.  I have purchased a few clothes and each are under ten dollars, a bargain!   If I buy items not manufactured in India they are expensive, but most things I can get locally.  I might go to a mall this weekend to get out of the heat and be in air conditioning.  Not exactly what I would choose but under the circumstances....  A liter of water is about 20 cents.  That is what a bottle of water should cost. I am feeling a bit lonely.  After work I am usually alone and find that I am not doing anything fun.  I will try to find enjoyable things to do.   I enjoy everyone's comments please keep them coming this way I can stay connected.

  1. Hi Sue! I have been keeping up with your blog and enjoying / learning from your experiences.

My introduction to modern India was through the movie "Born into Brothels" shown a few years ago about a photographer who taught a dozen children from Calcutta to use cameras, and eventually tried to get them into schools.

Not sure if you got the link I sent from CNN.com highlighting shopping in New Delhi:

I also will forward some info soon that I read in my book "100 Places a Woman Should Visit..." in India.

Have you had any difficulties eating the food & water (OK ...that is really personal but am wondering!). Are you being extra careful with washing & cooking, hygiene or is it now OK to be more relaxed with consumption in that country? India has had a bad reputation.

Love your blog .. take care!

    1. I am happy to say that my impressions of Delhi are much better than I thought!
Luckily, touch wood, I have remained healthy. I drink only bottled water and cook/brush my teeth with filtered water. Not trusting the filtered water to be good for drinking. the cost of bottled water is really reasonable, so I don't mind. I haven't been eating out much so am comfortable with the foods. Tonight I hope to go to the local South Indian restaurant, I hear it's good and spicy.
      Life is good.

  2. Watch the Dominos!Glad you had an indulgence, but don't make that a weekly habit or you won't last the 6 months. I have been reading every post...kids are sick here so been too busy to write. Check out the China Study written by Dr. T. Colin Campbell and the movie Forks over Knives. A lot to keep you busy and some provocative concepts to digest. I am currently thinking, reading and considering it all.

    1. No, pizza will not become a common food, but it was a nice change to what I have been eating. I will check out your recommendations when I have time. I don't have much to do but the time does seeem to fly by- that damn TV sucks me in!
Hope the kids are feeling better. Miss you.

  3. Hi Sue, Dominos! That's very surprising. Have you tried any Yoga classes? I guess they would be in Hindu? However, you don't really need to understand the language to do yoga. Maybe that would help you to connect a little with people. You are such a strong person to leave the comfort of your family and friends for this adventure. Keep reminding yourself that not many people could deal with being alone like that - but YOU can. Just wondering if there are any American citizen social groups around. When I lived in DC, there was a "society" for every state and the Ga State Society events were really fun. None of us knew each other but we were all "away from home" and it was comforting to be around other Georgians...Maybe there is something similar to that in Delhi?

I hope things start to crystallize for you at work. There's nothing worse (at least for you and me!) than being bored or feeling like you want to contribute but somehow cannot. I'm sure you will maneuver your way through the experience. Perhaps this is meant to remind you of the virtue of patience.

    1. Today I emailed a few places about Yoga. Next weekend I will check out the ones that were in walking distance from my apartment, there were three but I am a bit afraid of the conditions. I appreciate your encouraging words about taking control and doing what I need to fulfill myself. Thanks!!
I will do a search about "Ex-Pat" groups. Great idea!Ex-pats are what they call us westerners. Thank you for the suggestion.
